Casting

We are currently casting for the paid professional roles in our annual pantomime and this year it is Pinocchio!

Produced in-house and performed alongside a cast of local child actors, this year's production aims to be the biggest and most accessible panto in Portsmouth!

We are particularly looking for applicants in Portsmouth and the surrounding commutable areas, including all genders and ethnicities.

For consideration, submit a self tape including requested audition scenes and songs below, indicating the specific role you’re applying for by 18 June 2026 to casting@groundlings.co.uk

The roles

Geppetto

Our handsome sweet but lonely craftsman that creates Pinnochio. Strong singer and able to engage and get the audience on side.

Presents as 20- 35 yo.

Betty the Baker

Betty is the sweet, female love interest of our story. A strong singer and who all the little girls in the audience want to be. Betty longs for Geppetto to notice her but fears he doesn’t feel the same. When the opportunity comes to join him on the quest to find Pinocchio, she jumps at the chance and hopes they can get closer along the way.

Presenting as 20 - 35 y.o.

The Dame - Blue Fairy

Our classic pantomime Dame! The magical but slightly ditzy Blue Fairy tries to keep Pinocchio on the right side of the tracks as he sets off on his journey to find Geppetto a wife, eventually helping them to beat the wicked Ringmaster.

Has great comedic timing, able to interact with the audience and great singer would be a plus!

The Ringmaster

The Ringmaster is the villain of our story. An evil manipulative circus leader who cares only for themselves and will stop anyone in their path. Along with their cronies they try to hunt down the toys made from the enchanted tree. Good singer and able to channel their inner evil!
