A message from our Artistic Director:

I am delighted to unveil our brand new season here at the Groundlings Theatre. 2012 is very much a year of anniversaries and our vibrant, varied season reflects a number of significant historical and cultural events. Two hundred years ago this year, Charles Dickens was born in Portsmouth, and we at the theatre are very proud of our building's unique place in the life of one of the world's most celebrated writers, being the place where his mother went into labour with her famous son. Take a look at how we are celebrating the life and work of Dickens here. And on April 12th 1912 the White Star Liner Titanic sank on her maiden voyage after hitting an iceberg. To mark the centenary of this ill-fated voyage, Groundlings Theatre will become the Titanic in an evening of immersive entertainment where you can meet the passengers and crew of the ship, and dine in 3rd or 1st Class, enjoying the food and entertainment experienced by the real life passengers. We stage Cabaret 40 years after the seminal film, starring Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey, premiered. Even our Murder Mystery Dinners are getting in on the act, as you can enjoy a James Bond-themed comedy sleuth spectacular 50 years after Sean Connery exploded onto the silver screen in Dr No.

All these events, and the rest of our programme detailed in this brochure show that, once again, Groundlings Theatre is offering audiences unique, innovative productions to appeal to everyone. We can only achieve this with your continued support, and so I thank you for patronage and look forward to seeing you at our shows this year.
