The Groundlings Theatre Company was founded by Professional Actor Richard Stride in 2000 and is based in Portsmouth, England. In Shakespeare’s time the audience at the Globe Theatre who stood in the ‘ground’ area to watch his plays were the humblest and often riotous of the people. They were known as ‘The Groundlings’. It is from this Richard took the name. The Company’s first performance was "The Unusual Suspects" at Tristian Bates Theatre in the West End. |
